Never wear white before Easter or after labor day? Even swimwear has a set of myths that can be busted.
Myth: Buy the same size swimwear that you wear in clothing.
Fact: Swimsuits are typically sized smaller than clothing because they're meant to fit snug and tight. As with clothing, swimwear sizes can vary with the manufacturer. A size 2 or medium swimsuit made by Ujena, may not be the same size 2 or medium sold by Victoria's Secret. Hint: If you buy a junior size, you may consider going up one or two sizes, especially with brands that specifically target juniors like Roxy or Juicy Couture.
Myth: Never wear a white bathing suit because it will become transparent and see-through.
Fact: While this is a possibility, simply make sure there's a good inner lining to block any transparent effects.
Myth: The more your swimsuit covers of your body, the better.
Fact: Extra fabric, especially if it's bunched up or puckered, can emphasize that very feature you intended to cover up. Instead of covering up, find a swimsuit that fits correctly. An overly tight swimsuit can cause "muffin" waist and have the same "muffin" effect around your breasts, thighs and butt. Try a string adjustable swimsuit that can be adjusted to lay flat.
Myth: Wearing a black swimsuit can make you look thinner.
Fact: Any dark color can do the same thing: Navy, maroon, brown and dark green. If you have parts that you prefer to camouflage, avoid horizontal strips at all costs. Instead go for vertical and diagonal stripes or even prints can hide quite a bit and make the body look leaner.

Chlorine is an acid designed to purify swimming pool water. Not only will it bleach the color out of clothes, but it will weaken the fabric and cause it to wear and disintegrate over time. Even clothes (like swimwear) that were designed to withstand exposure to chlorine, will show it's effects over a short amount of time.
Keep in mind that salt water and harsh chemicals from hot tubs can be just as damaging to your favorite swimsuit.
Here are five tips to keep your bikini looking as new as the day you bought it:
1. Immediately after swimming, hand wash the suit in cool water or water and Dreft. Make sure there's no chlorine smell after washing.
2. Wash your swimsuit every time you've worn it, even if it didn't get wet. Sunscreen, sweat and body oils can cause stains.
3. Never wring the water out of your swimsuit after washing, instead gently roll it in dry towel. Then unroll the towel and air dry it out of direct sunlight.
4. Never, ever, leave your swimsuit bunched up and wet overnight. This can cause mildew and mold to form. These stains are impossible to remove from any fabric. At the very least, rinse out your swimsuit and throw a towel over the side of the bathtub and let it dry out overnight.
5. Try to avoid direct contact with rough surfaces. Rough surfaces like concrete, wood or rocks wear the fabric and can cause rips and snags.
